On April 28–30, 2025, the first meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Kyrgyz Commission on Transport, Transit and Logistics Issues is taking place in the city of Bishkek. The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Mr. A. Hudayberdiyev, is participating in the meeting.
During the meeting current issues of interaction in the field of transport and logistics were considered. Special attention was paid to the activation of transit transportation, the development of multimodal container routes through the territories of the two countries, as well as the expansion of cooperation in the fields of road, rail and water transport.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of utilizing the capabilities of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi for the transportation of Kyrgyz goods in the western direction, as well as the discussion of the provision of mutual tariff preferences. The parties also discussed aspects of cooperation in the consular sphere, in particular, issues related to visa procedures for participants in international transportation.
Following the results of the meeting, the signing of the Protocol of the First Meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Kyrgyz Commission on Transport, Transit and Logistics Issues is planned, which will reflect the agreements reached and outline the main directions for further cooperation.
Moreover, the parties agreed to hold regular meetings of the Commission. The second meeting of the Joint Commission is scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan in 2026.
The holding of the first meeting of the Commission became another important step towards strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, aimed at the development of transport and logistics cooperation, the intensification of trade relations, and the enhancement of the role of both countries in ensuring international transport corridors.
